Nylon Material
Nylon is definitely found in many items we wear, use at home, and even on our cars. The term has become a generic umbrella in many instances to cover various types of materials. Not all nylon is made the same way though or has the same strength. They basic elements are the same but the nylon material for panty hose is very different from what is used to make tires for your vehicle or parachutes for jumping out of airplanes.
Nylon materials are mainly made from a combination of coal and water. Yet there are many other chemicals that can be added to the process. It depends on what they final outcome is to be. The fibers that are developed are what will be used based on the strength of it. You will notice nylon rope can be purchased with many different maximum strength levels. This is based on the chemical processing that was used to complete the fibers.
There has been plenty of scientific research, development, testing, and advancement in the area of nylon since the early 1920’s. It is amazing to think that it was first used for toothbrush bristles and now even the United States military forces use it for safety and protection. Ironically it is the way nylon material was made to develop stockings and later pantyhose that it gets the most recognition for. Stockings were introduced in late 1940. There were even riots due to the early demand for them being three times the supply available.
All types of nylon material are continually tested for strength and durability. They must also be flexible for movement. Most types of nylon material don’t absorb chemicals or oils so they aren’t going to be wearing out rapidly at all. They also aren’t going to be affected by the elements in nature which we can’t control.
Since nylon materials are many and they will all have some common elements they can be lumped into one category. But since you now know that they have many differences you need to use what is best for a given event. Choose your nylon items carefully based on quality and strength. Make sure you read instructions on how something should be used and even washed if it is made from nylon. Don’t assume you already know.
